Unlocked with rings (one of the cheaper killers, per the tester preview)Furnace
Resource killer (Heat)
Furnace runs on Heat. Landing hits and standing still with Charge Heat build it, and his strongest moves spend it: Thruster Flight to cross the map and spot survivors, a longer burning Claw Slash, and Scorched Earth flamethrowers that hit everyone in front of him. Early in the round he's short on Heat and easy to stun while charging. In Phase 3, Heat refills on its own up to half the bar and he becomes a real threat.
Abilities
Phases 1–3
- Charge Heat: Stand still to build Heat. Stuns interrupt it. Landing hits also builds Heat.
- Thruster Flight: Spends Heat to fly and shows survivor positions.
- Claw Slash: Short dash-slash. With Heat it travels further, burns and can be cancelled early.
- Scorched Earth: Flamethrowers that hit everyone in front of him.
Phase 3
- Heat regen: Heat refills on its own up to 50%, so he can build it while moving.
Since the v1.24 update (October 18) every killer's basic attack (M1) does 35 damage, up from 20 at launch, and all abilities and M1s cost stamina. See the update log. Phase timing and the escape timer are covered in the escape timer guide.
How to survive Furnace
- Stun Furnace while he is charging Heat. That cancels the charge.
- Pressure him early, before Phase 3, while he is still slow.
- Never stack up in front of him. Scorched Earth hits everyone in the cone.
How to play Furnace
- Charge Heat somewhere quiet. It locks you in place and a stun cancels it.
- Use Thruster Flight to find survivors, then land and use the Heat you have left on a powered Claw Slash.
- Scorched Earth is your best damage against a group. Use it on survivors bunched up at a mist patch.
- Don't overcommit in Phase 1. Stall and pressure objectives until Phase 3, when Heat regen lets you chain abilities.
Map notes
- Castle map: A release-day reviewer playing Furnace here found it very dark, with survivors in all-black outfits blending into the shadows. Thruster Flight's reveal is your answer.
Why B tier
Furnace has the weakest early game of the five. Without Heat he is, in one reviewer's words, “just a weak M1 killer”, and charging Heat early leaves him standing still where survivors can stun him. In Phase 3 the free Heat regen turns him into a real threat. Expect Furnace to move up if early-game Heat is buffed.
FAQ
Why is Furnace so weak early?
Most of his kit spends Heat, and early on he has to stand still to charge it, where stuns interrupt him. A release-day reviewer called him “just a weak M1 killer” without it.
What does Furnace get in Phase 3?
His Heat refills on its own up to 50% of the bar, so he can keep using abilities while he moves.
