Free starter killer
S

The Deity (X)

Trapper and trickster · X, Crimson X. Skins: Alternate, 2011X, The Disaster X (TDX)

The Deity, usually just called X, is the killer every player starts with. Some videos label him by his skin, 2011X or TDX (The Disaster X), but it's the same killer with the same abilities. His kit is about information and traps: he can see every survivor, lay rings that hurt and double as teleport points, and use Peekaboo to make survivors guess which X is real.

Verdict (S tier, release week v1.1): The free starter is also one of the two best killers at launch: easy to learn, great map control, and hard to read. See the tier list →

Abilities

Phases 1–3

  • Hide and Seek: Turns invisible, leaves a decoy and shows every survivor. Running into a survivor in this state deals 30 damage.
  • Ring Trap: Drops a ring where X stands. A survivor who walks into it takes 50 damage, half their health. X can click any placed ring to teleport to it.
  • Peekaboo: Fills a survivor's screen with static and surrounds them with shadow clones. Touching the real X stuns him; touching two fakes, or doing nothing, gets you hit for 30.

Phase 3

  • Flight: Release gameplay shows X flying once Phase 3 starts.

Since the v1.24 update (October 18) every killer's basic attack (M1) does 35 damage, up from 20 at launch, and all abilities and M1s cost stamina. See the update log. Phase timing and the escape timer are covered in the escape timer guide.

How to survive The Deity

  • Don't walk through rings to save time. 50 damage is half your health bar.
  • During Peekaboo, hit or shoot the real X if you can tell which one it is. A hit reveals him to your team.
  • On Don't Drown, stay away from the water edge while Peekaboo is up. Reviewers report clones spawning out of reach when a survivor falls in.

How to play The Deity

  • Open with Hide and Seek to find survivors. While it's active, running into someone deals 30 damage, so use it to start a chase as well as to scout.
  • Place rings near mist patches, stairs, drops and dead ends. They block escape routes and give you teleport points next to the objectives.
  • Save Peekaboo for when a survivor is cornered or has nowhere obvious to go. A wrong guess costs them 30 health. A right guess stuns you, so don't spam it into open ground.
  • Down survivors near water on Don't Drown. Release-day footage shows survivors downed in the water stuck where they fell.
  • Once Phase 3 starts, use flight to cover the map and cut off the last survivors before the escape ring.

Map notes

  • Don't Drown: Release-week footage shows survivors stuck after being downed in the water, and a reviewer reported Peekaboo clones spawning out of reach when the target falls in. Rings on walkways and drops are very effective here.

Skins

  • Alternate: Slightly different skin tone and blood detail on the gloves.
  • 2011X: A different, creepier model with its own chase theme.
  • The Disaster X (TDX): A model inspired by the older Roblox game The Disaster, with chase music from that game. Gameplay videos note it has no intro animation.

Skins are cosmetic and don't change abilities.

Why S tier

The free starter is also the most consistent killer at release. Hide and Seek gives map-wide information and free damage, rings give both area denial and fast travel, and Peekaboo is hard to read. One release-day reviewer called X “the best killer in the game by far”, and the starter-killer gameplay we reviewed ends in a full server wipe.

FAQ

Is 2011X a different killer from The Deity?

No. 2011X is one of X's skins. The abilities are the same, only the model and chase music change.

Is The Deity free?

Yes. He's the starter killer, so everyone can play him from their first round as killer.

How do you beat Peekaboo?

Run into the real X to stun him. If a teammate can hit or shoot the real one, that reveals him. Doing nothing, or touching two clones, gets you hit for 30.
