How to Escape in Abyssal Escape

Survivors win by reaching the escape ring before time runs out. Here's how to get there, step by step. For the basics of the game, start with the beginner guide. To ask other players for help, the official Discord is the busiest place.

  1. 1

Load in with a sensible build

Two abilities, and never two stuns, because both stun durations are halved. Starters: Weak Punch (stun) and Healing Box (heal). Once you have rings, a mobility or parry option such as Slide or Phantom Reflex pairs well with one stun.

  2. 2

    Identify the killer

Check the intro and the screen. A grey, desaturated map means No More Innocence. Each killer needs a different plan (see the table below).

  3. 3

Find red mist and clear it

Stand in a patch and complete the skill check. You can't move while you do it, so start when the killer is chasing someone else or far away. Up to four survivors can clear one patch together.

  4. 4

    Keep the clock moving

Every patch cleared takes time off the escape timer. The longer the round goes, the stronger the killer gets, so steady mist clearing is how you survive Phase 3.

  5. 5

    Help downed teammates

Revive quickly, especially before Phase 3. Heal behind cover, because healing locks you in place and costs a lot of stamina.

  6. 6

    Walk when you're safe

Stamina doesn't slow your running, but it refills much more slowly while you run, and you need it for abilities. Walk between objectives so your stun or escape is ready when the killer shows up.

  7. 7

Go for the ring at 1:00

With one minute left, an escape ring spawns and is highlighted on your screen. Take the safest route there, not the shortest. The killer is at full strength now, so use your abilities on the way.

How to escape each killer

KillerWhat to do
The Deity (X)Watch the floor for rings, which deal 50 damage. During Peekaboo you have 5 seconds to find the real X. He's the one moving faster than the clones.
No More InnocenceStay spread out, and watch the TVs he can crawl out of. A survivor running at you might be his Deceit clone.
Fleetway Super SonicStay near teammates so his Grab can't carry you away. Strafe sideways when he lines up the Laser.
2017XUse height against his base form. If he marks you with Obsession, lead him away from the group.
FurnaceStun him while he charges Heat. Never bunch up in front of him, because Scorched Earth hits the whole cone.

Each killer page has a full counter list and explains how they change in Phase 3.

Small lobbies vs. full servers

Round length is 2 minutes plus 45 seconds per survivor, so 2:45 for one survivor and 7:15 for seven. Small lobbies have short timers but fewer people to clear mist, revive and stun. Full lobbies have longer timers but more hands. See the escape timer guide for start times by lobby size.

Map tips

Full details for both maps are on the maps page.

  • Don't Drown: stay away from the water when you're low on health. Survivors downed in the water are stuck there.
  • “...” (the castle map): it's dark and maze-like. Learn the mist patch locations, which reviewers say don't move between matches, so you don't get lost while the timer runs.

Common mistakes

  • Clearing mist while the killer is in sight. You're stuck in place and an easy hit.
  • Running everywhere and arriving at a chase with no stamina for abilities.
  • Equipping two stuns and getting half the stun time from each.
  • Huddling as a group of four next to Furnace or No More Innocence.
  • Waiting out the clock instead of clearing mist. The killer only gets stronger.
  • Running straight for the escape ring through open ground at 1:00.

FAQ

How do you escape in Abyssal Escape?

Clear red mist to drain the escape timer, survive the killer's phases, and reach the escape ring when it spawns at one minute left.

Can you escape alone?

Yes, but it's hard. With only one survivor the round is 2:45, and there's no last man standing mode at launch, so you have to survive the full countdown against a killer with no one to help.

Where does the escape ring spawn?

It spawns on the map at one minute left and is highlighted for every survivor. We haven't confirmed whether it uses fixed spawn points.
